Motorola’s Product Strategy -Ex ProductsMotorola will continue to supply GP900Ex, GP1200Ex and MTS2000Ex CENELEC EEx.ib.llC.T4 portables until 30 June 2003 and will continue to support these products in service with replacement batteries and parts after 1st July 2003, the date of entry into force of Directive 94/9/EC Motorola will also offer radios with batteries that are manufactured to the same design, using the same specification of materials and manufactured to the same standards, that are ATEX approved to EEx.ib.llB.T4 in early 2003. Motorola’s Product Strategy -Factory Mutual (FM) ProductsFactory Mutual (FM) Intrinsically Safe Motorola radios already in service will retain their classification after the 1st July 2003, the date of entry into force of Directive 94/9/EC, and will continue to be supported. Motorola will continue to manufacture and supply Factory Mutual (FM) radios for use outside the EU and EFTA or for maritime usage. Motorola cannot at this time, provide assurances that ATEX versions of this type of portable radio will be available after 1st July 2003, the date of entry into force of Directive 94/9/EC. FAQ’sWhat happens to my existing equipment, will I have to change it for new equipment? Radios that were on the market and used in the EU before 1st July 2003, the date of entry into force of the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC are not covered by it. And retain their original classification. Please also see note (2) I rent or hire radios and need IIC specification equipment. What happens after the 1st July 2003, will the radios have to comply with the ATEX Directive? Several reputable companies have rental fleets equipped with IIC Radios which have been placed on the EU market prior to the 1st July 2003, the date of entry into force of Directive 94/9/EC. Therefore the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC does not apply to this equipment. And their original categorisation is retained. This
equipment can continue to be regarded and utilised as IIC equipment. If I purchase a second hand radio after 1st July 2003, will it have to comply with the ATEX Directive? Radios were placed on the EU market prior to the 1st July 2003, the date of entry into force of Directive 94/9/EC and put into service on the EU territory. The ATEX Directive 94/9/EC does not apply. And their original categorisation is retained. For equipment supplied for use outside the EU territory, put into service within the EU after 1st July 2003, the date of entry into force of Directive 94/9/EC, the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC shall apply. Motorola would be happy to check serial numbers to determine whether they were supplied originally to a EU or EFTA country. Please also see note (3) If I have a faulty radio after 1st July 2003, that was purchased before 1st July 2003. When it is repaired, will it then have to comply with the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC? If the radio is repaired by an Authorised repairer, to the specifications to which it was originally supplied, then the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC does not apply, and the radio will retain its original classification. Please also see note (3) If I have a radio that needs a new antenna or has control knobs missing after 1st July 2003, when it is refurbished, will it then have to comply with the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC? If the radio is refurbished, and the refurbishment is limited to antenna replacement or control knob replacement using genuine parts to the specifications which the radio was originally supplied, then the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC does not apply, and the radio retains its original classification. Please also see note (3) I need IIC classification, however Motorola’s Ex products will be IIB classification under the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC, what can I do? Products will continue to be manufactured to the CENELEC EEx ib IIC T4 classification until the 30th June 2003, after that the products will be manufactured to the same design, using the same specification of materials and manufactured to the same standards, will be available at the ATEX IIB classification, if used in conjunction with a leather case. Radios can therefore be purchased before 1st July 2003, put into storage, and retain their IIC classification when put into operation after 1st July 2003 The Directive states that a product which is ready for use as soon as it is placed on the market and which does not have to be assembled or installed, and where the distribution conditions (storage, transport, etc.) makes no difference to the performance of the product, is considered to have been put into service as soon as it is placed on the market. This enables product to be purchased before the 1st July 2003, the date of entry into force of Directive 94/9/EC, and place in storage, to retain its IIC classification.
